Eclectix was formed in 1993 by accident from the late-stayers of a Flute Society of NSW meeting. It is a quartet of flutes, and related resonant vessels, and, as the name suggests, will perform anything. (almost)

As one can imagine, music for four flutes is rather scarce, which allows eclectix to indulge in pursuits more unusual and challenging than simply reading the notes. Improvisation makes up a significant part of the group's interest, in addition to arrangements and original works by the members. Of course standard repertoire is included in the musical diet, but sometimes with surprises.

Despite the emphasis on having a good time playing music, there is a serious side to eclectix: each member brings to the ensemble the professionalism, musicality and originality necessary to sustain a programme of music on like instruments.

Lisa Breckenridge studied at the NSW Conservatorium of Music (with Keith Griffin, Nick Negerevich and Rosamund Plummer) graduating in 1990 with Bachelor of Music (Distinction in performance). She earned her L.Mus.A. in 1989. Lisa was a grand finalist in the National Flute Competition in 1991 and since then has concentrated on an orchestral career, working as a freelance player with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra.

Emma Knott began studying flute at age 13. Having studied with Margaret Crawford & Gerhard Mallon at the QLD Conservatorium of Music, Geoffrey Collins in Sydney and briefly with James Galway & William Bennett, Emma has played throughout Australia, and lectured overseas. Emma also enjoys ccnducting and has worked for the Sydney Youth Orchestra Association and the Senior Flute Ensemble at the University of Wollongong.

Frances & Keith Griffin both studied at the NSW Conservatorium of Music with Margaret Crawford, Michael Scott and Howard Oberg (baroque flutes, recorders, historical performance practice). Keith became a part time lecturer of flute at the Conservatorium for several years. For many years Keith & Fran provided music in the foyer of Sydney's Regent Hotel, and they are both still active in several chamber music groups and as freelance performers.

Nowadays Keith & Fran split their time between music and other interests: Frances lectures in Mathematics at Macquarie University, and Keith teaches flute privately and does web developent work for fun.
