Brittany: Day 1, Mountains to Mole Hills

Today we drove 1,000 km or so from St Jean de Maurienne in the Alps to Ploufragan (near St Briuec) on the Bretagne coast! We left at 06:00 and arrived at 18:30, though it took us a while to find our Gite, have a tour of the property and then go out for dinner. Our hosts for the week had no english, so once again we were back to using non-sentences of one or two mispronounced words... which luckily seemed to work most of the time. Of course Brittany is an area where cycling is well regarded, and as soon as we mentioned Le Tour, and unpacked our bikes from the car any language barrier largely disappeared.

We found a wonderful restaurant in town - Fran had Duck and I had Prawns! A bottle of cheap St Emellion supported the meals well.

A very long day with little to report except that the driving was all great apart from the section from Orleans to Le Mans which was filled with hopelessly slow local traffic. Mostly this was huge tractors pulling a freshly stripped wheat crop in a big trailer.
